Thank you for purchasing the “PF” NFT.

As an extra gift, I wanted to share a bit of history about the painting’s creation, starting by sharing with you a photo of the preliminary sketch (on the left).

The sketch was made in charcoal on 50x65 cm paper (in France they call that ‘format raisin’, which is the standard large drawing paper size). The painting was made on a P20 canvas that I stretched myself. Each painting I create, I try to push myself to try something new, or in a new way. For the “PF” painting, I pushed myself to paint fast, instead of getting wrapped up in the details (even though the final product is pretty detailed). But, I deliberately wanted to leave a trace of the gesture on the canvas.

PF, short for Paul Flavien, was a friend of mine in Paris. He happened to be over when I needed a new portrait model, and graciously offered to hop into the houseplant to pose for the occasion.

I like this painting because the intensity of the regard pulls you in but keeps you at bay at the same time - in that sense, the viewer becomes magnetically connected, involved in an invisible tension where the painting’s protagonist seems to say “I’m intensely watching you, but pretending that I don’t care”.
